Job Description

Wrexham County Borough Council is recruiting a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join their Assessment and Intervention Team on a locum basis, paying between £28.70 and £38.43 per hour under the All Wales Pledge. The role is based at 31 Chester Street, Wrexham, LL13 8BG, with a start date of 29 June 2026.

You will manage an allocated caseload encompassing routine and complex social work interventions, including Section 47 enquiries and comprehensive assessments. Duties include developing and reviewing care and support plans, education plans, and working in partnership with other agencies to ensure proportionate, evidence-based responses to risk. Where the team operates a duty rota, you will be expected to respond promptly to crisis referrals and undertake immediate assessments.

The post offers structured mentoring and management supervision to support your ongoing professional development, with increasing levels of complexity and independent decision-making as your confidence grows.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Care Wales. Experience in children’s assessment work, including Section 47 and child protection processes, is essential.
