Job Description

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join its Adults and Communities service, based in Colindale, London (NW9 4EW). This is a temporary locum engagement at a daily rate of £176.25–£243.31, available from 16 June 2026.

You will deliver high-quality, statutory social work under the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act, holding a caseload of older people, adults with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, and their carers. Core duties include completing holistic needs and Mental Capacity Act assessments, developing strengths-based and outcomes-led care and support plans, conducting safeguarding enquiries in line with Making Safeguarding Personal principles, and engaging with a broad multidisciplinary network including CCG and Hospital Trusts, community and voluntary sector partners, and the Brokerage team.

You will promote direct payments and personal budgets, chair reviews and multi-agency meetings, and maintain accurate, timely case records. The role also involves providing supervision to Assessment and Enablement Officers and contributing to service improvement and professional development activity. Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification is desirable.

Essential: Social Work England registration, DipSW/CQSW or equivalent, and at least four years’ post-qualifying experience in adults’ social care. Sound knowledge of Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act frameworks is required.
