Job Description

Durham County Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker to join the Crook and Barnard Castle Families First Team, based at Crook Civic Centre, DL15 9ES. This is a maternity cover post paying £32.73 per hour, starting 31 May 2026.

The team works across a broad range of children’s social work, and the successful candidate will need experience covering children in need and child protection, children in our care (looked after children), and both public and private law proceedings including the Pre-Proceedings (PLO) process.

You will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, bringing demonstrable experience across the full range of children and families casework described above. The ability to work confidently within court processes and manage a complex caseload is essential.
