Job Description
Somerset Council is recruiting an Adults Advanced Practitioner to provide professional leadership across Adult Social Care (ASC) in Taunton. This is a substantive, senior-level qualified social work post reporting to the Service Manager, offered on a temporary basis at £32.13–£44.00 per hour, commencing 22 June 2026.
The post holder will lead and deliver high-quality social work practice within a specified neighbourhood or locality, supporting adults to remain independent, facilitating timely hospital discharge, and safeguarding vulnerable adults. The role may be deployed across a range of service areas including Neighbourhoods, Intermediate Care, Mental Health Social Care, Community Learning Disabilities, Hospital Interface, Safeguarding, Preparing for Adulthood, or Peripatetic teams.
Key responsibilities include supervising up to seven qualified social workers, overseeing complex casework, co-producing assessments and support plans under the Care Act 2014, supporting Court of Protection applications, conducting audits, and contributing to service development. The postholder will act as a lead practitioner for safeguarding adults and provide expert guidance, coaching, and mentoring to the wider social care workforce.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification, be currently registered with Social Work England, and demonstrate extensive experience in adult social care, particularly with adults who have physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, dementia, or long-term conditions. The role requires four days per week on-site in Taunton (TA1 5DA).
