Job Description

Isle of Wight Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Team Manager to lead and manage a team of social workers within its Children & Families service, based at County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight (PO30 1UD). This is an interim locum role paying £35.62–£47.50 per hour, commencing 15 June 2026.

In this role you will provide professional supervision, support, and development to your team whilst driving high standards of practice across the service. Key responsibilities include ensuring legal permanency for children in care, embedding life story work, addressing contextual safeguarding risks, and championing the corporate parenting agenda through meaningful participation of children and young people. You will use quality assurance frameworks to monitor team performance, manage budgets and resources effectively, and work collaboratively with partner agencies to promote child welfare, with a particular focus on education and learning.

You will be expected to remain current with legislative developments and best practice, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports as required.

The successful candidate will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience at a senior or management level within children’s social care, ideally within a Children and Families or similar long-term team.
