Job Description
Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Services team in Taunton. This is a community-based role carrying a caseload of varying complexity, undertaking comprehensive assessments of risk, care needs, and eligibility under relevant legislation, including statutory reviews and carers’ assessments.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside health colleagues, managing ongoing cases and developing realistic, needs-led care plans. Duties include responding to referrals, crisis management, safeguarding, engaging with individuals refusing services who are at risk, and liaising with primary care, housing, the police, and voluntary sector partners. Some court of protection and appointeeship work is included.
Essential requirements: a recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA Social Work or equivalent), current registration with Social Work England, multi-disciplinary social care experience relevant to adult services, and access to a vehicle. Desirable experience includes working with people with Learning Disabilities and supervisory experience.
The role is offered on an interim basis at £27.78–£38.00 per hour via Prism, based at The Crescent, Taunton, TA1 4DY, with a start date of 22 June 2026.
