Job Description

Barnsley Children’s Social Care is recruiting two Senior Social Workers to join one of its four Assessment and Duty Teams, based at Wombwell Police Station and co-located with the police. This is a fixed-term contract running from 1 May to 1 September 2026 at £35 per hour.

The Assessment Teams complete assessments with children and families within 40 working days, working collaboratively to determine the right intervention. Once a plan is agreed, families are either closed to Children’s Social Care or transferred to Early Help, long-term teams, or relevant service areas. The four teams operate on a rota: one week on duty (allocations), then three weeks completing assessments and developing intervention plans. During duty week, attendance is five days in the office; otherwise a minimum of three days per week on site (hybrid working).
