Job Description

Are you a resilient, relationship-focused Social Worker ready to make a real difference to the lives of young people aged 14–18 in Knowsley? This is a demanding but deeply rewarding locum opportunity within the Looked After Service (Young Persons Team), based in Huyton, Merseyside, paying between £23.75 and £31.15 per hour via Prism.

You will hold a caseload of looked-after young people aged 14 to 18, developing and reviewing care plans that reflect each young person’s needs, risks, and aspirations. Contextual safeguarding sits at the heart of this role — you will assess and respond to exploitation, missing episodes, offending behaviour, and mental health concerns, leading on dynamic risk management and individualised safety planning.

Relational, trauma-informed practice underpins everything here. You will build trusted relationships with young people who may be disengaged or resistant to services, undertake meaningful direct work to promote resilience and independence, and support pathway planning as young people transition towards adulthood. Close multi-agency collaboration with education, health, police, youth justice, and residential providers is central to the role.

Applicants must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience of working with adolescents in complex, high-risk settings. Strong analytical and report-writing skills, confidence in court work, and proven ability to manage a busy caseload are essential.
