Job Description

As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you’ll be the independent voice for children and young people, ensuring their views and experiences meaningfully shape the decisions about their care. You will play a key role in promoting their safety, wellbeing and overall outcomes. You will monitor the plans for our cared for children, and chair their cared for reviews, pathway plan reviews and adoption reviews ensuring their plans are appropriate, timely and meeting their needs. You will also chair Child Protection Conferences, ensuring that clear, robust plans are in place to safeguard children at risk of significant harm. This dual role is central to holding the Local Authority and its partners to account, by supporting and promoting high quality practice with children and their families, to improve their outcomes. This exciting position is well suited to someone who is motivated by making a difference, values quality assurance, and thrives in an environment that embraces multi-agency working. We promote flexible working where this aligns with service needs. Staff can work from a range of locations, including from home. However, meetings with children and their families are expected to take place in person. What we are looking for: Qualified Social Worker. Social Work England registration. Significant experience in children and families work, including complex work and multi-agency meetings (minimum of 5 years frontline social work experience, or experience as an Independent Reviewing Officer/Child Protection Advisor or Manager). Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills. Ability to work using a relational and strength‑based approach. Commitment to outstanding practice with children, young people and their families. Ability to travel across Northumberland and work flexibly.
